Round Balls that aren't so Round

I don't fret over the roundness or weight of round balls. I figure when I ram a ball and patch down a barrel the ball is distorted to the contour of the barrel. I don't compete or shoot for groups and am satisfied if the ball hits my intended target close to where I was aiming. Too many variables with black powder shooting to worry about roundness or a couple grains of weight. Shoot, enjoy.
 
It's been many years since I entered a serious match with rifle or pistol. By using balls that others might prefer to weigh and that were only casually examined visually for surface defects, I did consistently well. I've won a few first place with rifle & pistol and seldom scored lower than 3rd place. I was also a much better shot back then.
