round flints

iv seen pictures of verry old flints that were round.flat edge flints are supposed to hit the frizzen square. :what: sometimes i cock my flint to make a corner hit instead of the whole face..i guess that would be the same as a round flint... :huh:

French gun flints were round backed, the only round backed English flints were strike-a-lights. OTOH, maybe you are looking at a scraper someone has mis-labeled as a gun flint?

I seem to remember this also... I know mine will work fine with the flint cocked a little too. My opinion is if it works why mess with a good thing..

Gunflints with a rounded back edge are called gunspalls and they've been found at archaeological sites in both French amber and English gray flint.
