In Colorado I acquired a perc barrel marked "Sharon Rifle Barrel Co. .58 CAL" on the bottom. It is in unfired, unused condition. Are there stocks and lock parts available? It has a pinned rear plug with threaded hole for a nipple, measures .95 in across the hex flats, 32" long. Dovetail type slots at 2" and 23-1/2" from the end.The bore is clean, I want to clean off some outer surface rust-what is the best modern product to use?-I think steel wool would cut it up too bad. The bore is rifled-how do I measure the twist, or can I assume it is a round ball bore? Thanks for any help. Ted.

I take it that it is unfinished ? 0000 steel wool & some oil & rubbed lightly will remove the rust if it is not rusted bad, and not damage the barrel.

You may cannot see it, but if the outside is rusted, allot of the time the inside is as well, you just can't see it as well.

Take a range rod & a patch & oil it well & swab the bore see how it looks coming out. Needs to be a tight swab but start weasy & work up so you don't hang the jag.

As for the breech, not tellin what the barrel was made for so no telling what it will fit. Sharron made barrels, not rifles. Could have been made for a Multitude of rifle styles & locks.

To check the ROT. Take range or cleaning rod that has a bearing in the handle. Put a tight jage/patch on the end of it. Push it all the way to the breech. Take a piece of tape & go around the rod at the end of the muzzle & leave a piece of tape sticking up at 12 o/clock as a flag/marker . Now pull the rod out & watch the flag rotate to 3 o/clock. Measure the distance from the muzzle to the flag. ? " x 4 = the ROT.
If you pull the rod out til the flag stops at 6 o/clock, measure, ?" x 2 = ROT, so it ends up 1 in 48 or 1-60 or 1-66 or 1-70, etc.
