Guy at retail store says these German made RWS musket caps are water proof....opinions or persponal experiances with these????
Please and thank you!

I don't know about being waterproof but have hunted with them in wet weather using a cows knee. I have never had one to not go off reguardless of what type of weather they were used in. Good caps!

You can make any cap, musket, or #11, " waterproof", by putting a piece of plastic wrap over the nipple before placing the cap on it. Then tear or trim off the excess. The flame will burn right through the plastic, but the plastic will keep water out of the cap.

I skirmish so I have spent a lot of time over the years in the pouring rain shooting my minie' gun. I never worry about the waterproofong of the cap itself or it on the nipple. The thing to worry about is tipping your hat whilst loading and dumping water down the bore or into the nipple before capping. Do your own testing. When you head out to the range, drop 5 caps in a glass of water, and when you get there shoot them. Wonky

What Gixmo said.

I know one skirmisher -- a crack shot on the national champion musket team -- who keeps 4-5 caps in his mouth to start a relay so he can get to 'em faster. Never had a moisture-related misfire -- but he has sulphurous breath! :rotf:
