Greetings All,

Have been away from the ML FORUM for awhile, so will start off with a question about my 30 year old SEACO (Santa Anita Engineering Company) Electric Melting Furnace.

Alas, the thermostat has finally burned out, leaving the pot full of solidified lead.

SEACO has been out of business for many years. Does anybody know if their products were picked up another company, or if any of the old employees are still around?

Thr Thermostat is a 115 volt, AC-DC, 1000 Watt unit. It was most likey a component purchased from a sub- contracter.

Do any of you gentlemen have any idea of a company that manufactures this type of thermostat?

Best regards and good shooting,

John L. Hinnant

If you are not an NRA or NMLRA Member, why not? I am carrying your load.

Hey, John;

Didn't RCBS buy out SAECO? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere. Might be worth looking into, anyway. Good luck on your search, and let us know what you find out,

Best wishes,

Joel

Why dont you take the thermostat to the nearest appliance repair store and have them match it up, you install it , and no shipping charges.

if it were me and not worried bout using the furnace again i would try to direct wire it to heat the lead to get it out of the furnace to use the lead again....or try what was said bout the nearest appliance repair store  ...............bob

Redding bought SACO, I have lots old SACO moulds made by Redding. Check them out on the web.

I wonder if you can make a Lee thermostat work http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi/catalog/parts.cgi?1163385408.4508=90947

That is a very commonly used bi-metal thermostat. We use the very same one on industrial irons. I think with a little research, something can be made to work if one is not available. Good luck.

Good Morning All,

I knew I could count on the ML Forum members to come up with good advice and ideas.

Many, many thanks to all who replied to my problem and gave me some other options.

I am still open to possible solutions; so keep the ideas rolling in.

Best regards and good shooting,

John L. Hinnant

I have 2 of those and had to repair one some yrs. back, an electrician friend did it for me, I think you can get the parts at an electrician supply store. Redding did buy Saeco but only make the moulds. I also have a RCBS promelt and it's nothing like the Saeco pot.

SAECO products are still listed by some vendors, but I do not see furnaces by them anymore. You might search by the correct name.

The older Lyman pot and the Saeco are the same and although Lyman doesn't make them anymore they may still have parts for them.
