This is bowie was made from wrought iron and file steel in the center , The billet started at about 7 in long and as wide as the file. i started stretching the blade . had a tanto shape was not like that so i did some more work and got it this shape.Handle is black walnut with welding rod .

Nice job. I would personally like to hear more about the technical part of the welding if your interested. Did you fold a single chunk of iron over and shove the high carb in there and weld? How did you keep everything together during the weld?

Loyd you can do that it that way, i take two piece of wrought iron on the outside. a file in the center, i spot weld on the outside the billet and weld a handle on the one end.then i take it to the forge and bring it to heat and work withit awhile tell it feels nice solid. then grind the wend off. and cut a angle on end for the point,there is diffent was to do it this way work for me .hope that make since.
 
Wish I had the skill & equipment :shocked2: :shake: to even try to mess up some of that stuff! :hmm:

Great Job. always liked the San Mai steels, just gives it character. I really do like the blade shape you came out with.
 
Cliff the blade 11 half in. long,The blade is inch hald wide.the handle is 5 1/4 long thanks for the nice words.
