I was just wondering if any of u knew how to make fake scalp locks. I really been wanting to make some but cant figure out how. I dont know how u would attach the hair to the leather.

One way to do it is tie the hair in the middle with linen or hemp cord (leathers too thick)fold in half at the tie and run the cord thru a silver or brass cone with the folded part inside the cone. Then you can string some beads on the cord and tie it to whatever.Or do you mean a whole scalp?

I found what thay called falls at goodwill i took pig skin and used contact cement to fix them to the base of the fall then sew beads around the edge they looked good.

Couldn't you stack the hairs in a tube and let about an inch protrude and stick the hairs in some epoxy glue, that may work.

I think if I was going to make a faux scalplock I would mix a little red color in with the glue so it covered the use of glue and looked like dried blood.

I made one with a circle cut out of a wig,Then I sewed a pice of buckskin with very small stitches around it then painted the skin side as in the American Rifleman sketchbook. The paint hid the stitches then I laced it onto a willow hoop.Problem is all I had was a red haired wig and me a scotsman :shake: Gotta get a black wig

Icelandic sheepskin cut into small (scalp sized) pieces works really well..... and it comes in different natural colors.... unfortunatly, it's not really long enough for an ex-longhaired person....

I've made them for Monster costumes.... but painting on a layer of fake blood, and letting it stain the flesh side works well, most of the fake blood flakes off when it's dry, but it may be "over-kill" if you want them to look realistic instead of scarry.... but you can test a chunk of scrap first wipping off the fake blood to get the amount of staining you want....

A few scalps, some fake fingers.... lots of fun for an Orc or Reaver costume.... But the scalps do look real......

A scalplock is someone's har, taken by them varmit injuns out fer plunder. The topknot was divided up into little strands and used as a sort of "fringe" on buck skin seams- or just left as is- fer a trophee.

Dont ask where the hair came from.

I wanted some scalplock a few years ago for a War shirt. I hit the lcal Flea Market and found several human wigs. I washed them and treated them with conditioner (gets all the snags out).

They work perfect and can be dyed to your satisfaction. Cost ran $3 - $6 bucks and they go a long way.

I have a blond scalplock on my shooting bag that I took from a renegade that didn't know how to treet southern women.

I found 2 boxes of hair at a flea market a few years back. Got the boxes for 3$ apiece. The gentleman told me it was used for making dolls. It was neatly done up in hanks 1\4 to 1\2 dia bundles. Kinda neat , all I had to do wrap the ends w\ sinew and sew on my shirt. Keep yer eyes peeled you can find treasures anywhere. Just my .02's Wild Eagle

Not to steal the thread. But this whole scalp thing should be approached cautiously. While perusing stuffs at a Good-Will Store (Second hand store) with my wife. I happen upon a small wig or hair piece of some kind. I picked it up, held it up in front of me and addressed my wife. “Now There’s Something you don’t find everyday. A Scalp!” I next heard a high pitched ear piercing scream. As I turned, there was a 7-8 year old little girl looking at the Scalp with a horrible terror filled face as she turned and ran ”¦for her mother, I guess. The result was”¦ I was admonished by the wife for said action. GOOD LUCK On Your Quest!
