It is my understanding that these are the most authentic production copies of 1830s J&S Hawken rifles. Only 1000 were made in late 70s. This one is number 759/1000 and in very good plus condition. Date code AE for 1979. The browned 32.5" barrel has minimal edge wear, heavier at muzzle. Twist is 1:66. Bore is actually .53, so a .520 round ball. Bore is very good. Walnut stock is in very good condition with minimal handling marks. LOP is 15". Rifle weighs 9.4 lbs. These sold new for $7-800 - a bit high for the time.

Hopefully the seller won't mind me chiming in...

If you are looking for a Hawken type rifle, and either don't want to pay or wait for a custom build, these rifles are tough to beat.

The buyer got a nice rifle. A final thought before the thread gets closed...

The link that the seller posted is a must read for those looking for a "historically accurate" Hawken type rifle.

Some of the imports and early attempts were better than others, but keep in mind they are all replicas or an interpretation of a Hawken. Even the top dollar custom builds.
