Has anyone on here had a Hawken or Thompson Renegade drilled and tapped for scope mounts?

I know,I'm expecting some remarks like why would you and........but I just wanna.

I believe there is this scope mount clamps down to your barrel so you dont have to drill it. Just cant recall where it was being sold.

I remember seeing thse somehwere also.I had rather try that than drill and tap.

In a one word answer: NO!

People who want to shoot a ML that way buy an IN**ne!

Not being smug, just the truth!

I have scoped a couple of ML rifles just to see what sort of accuracy I could get, eliminating my poor vision from the equation. I used a Weaver mount base made for the Marlin lever action rifles. That is a flat base with no taper front to rear. Clean the barrel and base thoroughly with any de-greaser, coat the base with JB Weld, clamp it to the barrel and let set overnight. JB Weld (not the quick kind) is amazingly strong stuff and if you want to remove it just heat with a propane torch or stove burner until it starts to stink, pop off the base and rub off with fine steel wool or burlap while still hot. You can't tell it ever was there. No holes to drill to mount it and no holes to fill if you remove it.

I've seen a T/C Hawken with a scope. My GM IBS RB barrel I just put on my Hawken is tapped for one. :shake:
I'm sure a search on Google will find you an answer.

If you only want to use a scope in working up a load for a rifle, consider using a weaver base, and then clamp it to your rifle using radiator hose clamps. Pad the stock to protect the finish and the wood, and tighten the clamps down. 'That will hold the mount in place and allow you to use the scope for this temporary work. When you have the most accurate load for the work you want to do, remove the scope, and zero the load with your open sights, or aperture sight.

I have one of those clamp on scope mounts that I picked up at a gun show. The idea is if my eyes get bad enough I have the set up to go. I seem to be shooting just fine with the Lyman white bead front sight for now, so the scope mount remains on my bench.

Bought a leupold scout type mount for my renegade from Ebay a few months back. It bolts on to the barrel where the rear site sits. No gunsmithing needed, and I can go back to open sites when I want to. The barrel is a gm. It requires a pistol scope. It is a neat little set up for those of us older guys with bad eyes who dont want to go the Inli** route. While I know it is not traditional it allows me to use my side hammer and still get clean kills. Leupold part # 49998.
