FOR SALE Scoped "Picket Ball" Target Rifle

This .44 heavy target rifle was typical of those used by Sharpshooters on both sides of the American Civil War. This particular style did not require a false muzzle to load. Rather, it used a cone shaped "picket ball". It was built by Charles Dieckow, active 1860-1881 in Utica, NY. It has a 28.5" barrel that is 1.25" across flats. Bore is very sharp. It is topped with a brass telescopic sight marked G.A. HENYON MAKER. Optics a little cloudy and crosshairs need replacing. LOP is 13". Singke set trigger.There is no proof that this was used in the Civil War, but it is conceivable. Other photos attached include a group of Union sharpshooters and picket balls excavated from a Union encampment in Virginia. $1300 + Shipping.

Sorry. Weighs a little over 11 lbs. Very shootable. Set trigger is fine. A couple of places refurbish tgese scopes without messing with age patina.
