i finished up contouring my horns base plug and did my coat of arms in scrimshaw on to it....even made a scribe to do the shaw work, and it worked pretty good fer my first time....i made it out of an old ejector pin from when i worked in the plastic injection factory....i ground it to a point very slowly as to not hurt the temper then drilled a hole just smaller then the dia of the pin in an old piece of ram rod....then tapered the wood by holding it in my drill and spinning it againest my hand held grinder with a sanding disk on it....sealed the base plug and horn with some BLO....now i can start on the bead work and macrame on the strap and git it attached to the horn then i'm done :v ..........bob

Nice lookin horn, Buff. You did a good job on the crest too. "Charcoal Burner" is a perfect name for a B/P shooter. GW

:shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: WOW bob!!! You whipped that puppy out real quick! Looks great!

 Great work!! Got any advice, as I would like to do the something similar. I have tried doing some scrimshaw, my problem is letting the pick slip and messing the whole thing up.

since my surgery i can't use right hand to scrim like i write....so what i had to do was use my left hand to hold pressure down on the metal point between my thumb and forfinger....i used my right hand to turn and follow the pencil lines drawn on my horn, see video on how i do that to give ya a better idea :v ..............bob

Great horn AND scrimshaw work!!!
Where there's a will, there's a way. :hatsoff:

50 cal, make sure the point of your scribing tool is sharp and keep touching it up during the process.I use a small honing stone but one one of those small diamond stones work good too.Just like a knife, the sharper it is, the less slippage you'll have.

Looks good Bob.
Excellent job.
I just finished my first scrimshaw but I dont know if I want to show it.

go ahead show it....it's always good to see everyones work, good or bad and no matter what the owners thinks of it....i didn't think that mine looked good enough to me :v ...........bob

Remember, this is my first attempt at scrimshaw.
I realize a lot of mistakes I made.
The next one will be a lot better.
