OKay guys, this is foreign territory for me but I am seeking some guns parts for a custom gun that is being build for me but my business partner, TravisB. I have no idea where to start to any info point me in the right direction would be helpful.

I am looking for:
-.45 barrel 13/16" or 7/8" at least 30" in length.
-set of triggers
-flintlock lock (chambers/siler or L&R only)

Thanks all!

Check with Track of the Wolf, Dixie Gun Works, Chambers (Flintlocks.com), TVM, Rice, others.

Your builder (Travis B) may have some preference, ask him what he thinks.

Or, if it was me.
.45 barrel from Rice barrel co
Triggers from Track of the Wolf
Lock from Chambers
Stock blank from Dunlap woods

Or.
All from Track of the Wolf.

Good luck with your build and enjoy.

What style of rifle are you looking to build? Half stock or full stock. The 30" barrel may look better on a half stock. If you are looking to save weight go with a half stock -- something like this - it weight is 6 pounds - .45 cal with a 33" 7/8" across the flats GM barrel. You can make it in flint if you like. I made this for a woman competive shooter.

A couple of months back I was looking for a 7/8" 45 barrel. Only place I found any (happened to be Green Mountain barrel) was Muzzleloader Builders Supply.

The other parts should be pretty easy to come by from the other sources listed.

Look up Tip Curtis Frontier Shop in the ads in Muzzle Blast mag.

Tip has a large inventory and is probably as competitively priced as anywhere.

Since you are in Ohio I recommend you try Log Cabin in Lodi. Great people to work with. As for a barrel I bought a green mountain 45 caliber, 13/16 recently straight from the company. They hadn't made many ML barrels for a while but started making them again. :idunno:

IMO, questions about building guns are best answered in The Gunbuilder's Bench section of our forum.

Although fewer people go there to read the requests, the people who do frequent the area know the answers to just about anything that that can be asked.

What she is looking for is if anyone has any of these laying around. Like anything there selling on a trade blanket. I have a blank piece of wood here that I'm gonna build a full stock out of. I don't know if she said flintlock or not either but she is looking for a flintlock. Preferably a large siler lock would be preferred. This gun won't be built in any certain school of rifle so it's more of a Frankenstein style gun. She was threatening to just not shoot anymore out of frustration not being able to find a rifle that fits so instead of losing a shooter I told her I would build a rifle that would fit her. So any help from anyone on some parts would be great. I'd even be willing to trade a shooters bag or whatever for some of the parts if necessary.

Yes it would be a better place although I frequent there but it's not so much to pass on but to learn what I can just like the flint section. I don't shoot flint(yet) but someday like when I'm retired I plan on starting.

Hi Travis and OhioRamm,
I am in the process of building a fowling gun for a fairly small women. It is the 3rd or 4th gun I've built for smaller sized people over the years. Obviously the length of pull will be shorter than usual but keep in mind that drop at the heel of the buttplate often needs to be less in proportion with LOP than you might typically expect for larger people. In other words, you may find that a straighter stock is needed. A 30" barrel, straight or swamped should balance pretty well. In addition, if you go with a skinny barrel (anything under 1") I urge you to use a small Chambers Siler or perhaps his Late Ketland. The reason for the smaller lock is that you will find it easier to shape the lock and wrist area to prevent the gun from looking slab sided. Many guys buy 13/16" barrels and large Silers and unless they mount the lock low, below center of the barrel, there is not sufficient wood above the lock to allow that area to be gracefully curved and blended. Instead the guns have a slab sided shape and the cross section through the lock area looks like a rectangle with the corners rounded rather than a nice oval or spherical shape with 2 flattened sides. Little skinny guns are a challenge.

I will also add that it is a good idea to consider a little toe out when fitting women if not using a curved bp

Of the common barrel sizes a 45 13/16ths will be lightest. A 40 3/4 will be a little lighter yet, but barrels that slim are mostly a custom item. For a woman's or young person's gun I'd look for barrels of these dimensions.

Google Howard Kelly, a barrel maker. He can make a slim light barrel.
