You might want to double check that answer. New York is one of the states that treats black powder guns the same as other firearms and requires them to be registered. When shipping them out of state they need to go FFL to FFL. Found that out the hard way.

Going from FFL to FFL doesn't make sense for a black powder firearm. Even the ATF doesn't require that for a modern firearm. They just require the receiver to be an FFL for a modern firearm. Since Virginian may be more forgiving on receipt the issue becomes shipping from NY. One could remove the barrel and ship it in 2 pieces via USPS, now you really are only shipping parts.

Yes, they are considered "antique" firearms if they are copies of antiques. Be sure to insure the musket. You probably know not to ship any black powder with the musket.

Maybe we should be cautious when dealing with those east coast states. Some have very un-American laws regarding firearms and do not distinguish between modern and antique. Both buyer and shipper need to check their state and local laws. Sad but true.

It is the New York state law that prohibits it, not the ATF or Federal. I know Illinois is the same way.

NY state law is communist controlled. Better not do it unless you go through a licensed dealer.

Go ahead and ship it and if you get in trouble, just tell them some guy named "rj morrison" said it was ok. :haha:

you can ship it by us mail, ups or fed.

:rotf: That's a sure fired method of getting ones self off the hook alrighty.

Like Claude said....beware of taking online advice...best to call proper authorities if you are uncertain. That said, we ship BP longrifles here in NYS all the time, within and out of state. Now if you are referring to NYC, then that is a whole different situation. We do not need permits here to own BP rifles. I did however, have to register a BP single shot pistol with my county. Rifles are not a problem here......at least for the time being.

Not all of Illinois is that way. I have muzzleloaders shipped to my front door. I'ts some counties in Illinois that have such restrictive laws to include the whole of Chicago and surrounding areas. Illinois does treat muzzleloaders as a firearm and you must have a Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID). But atleast in my county I can have a muzzleloader shipped directly to my home address as long as I have my FOID Card. Thats still screwed up though! But thats Illinois for ya!
