hello,
i had just got rid of my flinter so i dont need my new can full of 4F. are you allowed to ship powder or what is the rule with that? let me know if you know any thing about it. thanks aaron

You can read the ATF website, but no, John Q. Public can't just ship blackpowder like Goex.
Licensing, special packaging, labeling, etc...closest I came was with FedEx a few years ago but they said I had to complete a training, and get a certification, etc...many shippers now days won't even ship hazardous materials from individuals for obvious reasons.
If you were close I'd buy it from you as I use Goex 4F all the time...

No way, not legally anyhow. :nono: Your best bet is to find someone locally who will swap for something you can use.

Why didn't you sell the 4F to the buyer of the gun? He's going to need the powder. If he's out of state, then find a local BP shooter or club, and give the powder to him/them.

Don't ever think you are the only BP shooter in your world. There are lots of shooters out there, hiding in closets, not joining forums like this, not joining clubs, not wanting their names known, and other nonsense.

I met a lawyer in the courthouse, waiting for the courtroom to open up for a hearing, who I had known for several years. He not only is a Hunter, he is a BP shooter, and he has built several FLINTLOCKS. I just sent him the name of this website, so he can come on and get more information.

I am well-known among lawyers here to be the local " NRA-spokesman", and the legal Expert on Gun laws, etc. But, this lawyer has never approached me before. The way he finally talked to me was another lawyer made a crack about the judge being a vegetarian, and I made the comment about preferring Venison. The lawyer who is a shooter then offered that he had taken a deer last year, but could not go hunting this year, and was doing without the venison today. Then we got to talking about hunting, and what we used, and found our common interest in MLers and flintlocks in particular. Small world- REALLY!

Don't know where to look? I have never been to a machine shop or auto repair shop where I didn't find people interested in guns, and hunting. Your local sporting goods store is another good place to post a sign indicating you have some BP to "trade" or " get rid of". They also often known which customers are into our sport locally, and can refer you to someone.

Join the NMLRA. It has Charter clubs in all the states, and State Representatives for the organization. Those are published in Muzzle Blasts several times a year, but you may also find them on the NMLRA site, ( NMLRA.com) or by calling the office and telling them where you live. The local charter club becomes a place to start, and, if there is none local, then the State Rep. often knows shooters close to you. :hmm:

Forget shipping. If there's a local ML shoot nearby, take the 4F and someone will likely buy it. Same for something like my gun club's swap meet. If someone had a can of 4F at a decent price it would sell in minutes.

Sorry you sold your flintlock; it's my favorite type of muzzleloading.

The problem is individuals cann't legally sell any granulation of Black with out a liscense. It seems ironic that two or more people can order a case and split it legally, but once you have it you cann't sell it. Which is why a club can order a case for it's members but cann't sell to non members. But then , you can form a club with "dues "equal to the price of a can ! :idunno: :idunno:

If you are willing to post where you are located someone close by that visits here may be able to use it. I could always use extra powder, if in northern Nevada.

Sincere apologies if I got that wrong. I assumed you could sell BP face to face since there wouldn't be storage considerations.

Another possibility if you still have percussion guns. I keep a small priming flask with 4F Goex in the shooting box in case I need to put some powder under the nipple if there's a dry ball (it happens) or some obstruction in the flash channel.

Sorry about any bad advice.

Jeff

Now i dont know for sure, but i dont think it is "Technically" legal for an individual to sell powder.
I doubt the Feds would have a problem with selling ONE can of powder to someone, But you never know anymore.
I have definetly seen sillier stuff.

I can't sell you this pound of powder, But if you buy this plastic spoon from me, I will give you this powder as a premium/gift.
