Yes you do! Shoot Out is a product developed by Frontier Muzzleloading. It consist of a very fine polishing media in a liquid carrier. I've used it in a couple of rough barrels and it polished them up nicely. Now it won't remove any deep pits but will polish minor pitting and also remove any fouling buildup.

A tat of valve grinding compound worked before any of the commercial products came online!
But valve grinding compound that doesn't have two words in capital letters and an exclamation mark.

HYPE! is what polishes the bore.

Not the ingredients.

You're both right but valve grinding compound is messy - real messy. and a lot harder to clean up.
I've used Shoot Out and it works nicely without cleaning up the greasy mess valve grinding compound leave behind. I have used valve grinding compound in the past. Shoot Out is much better for the same results. A simple warm water flush and the bore is clean.

Easy clean up is a benefit.

I just used grinding/lapping compound loaded onto a bore mop to polish the chamber of my new Ruger American.

Spray on brake cleaner had a hard time breaking through the compound.

But she's mirror bright now.

I was given a .54 CVA Hawken because the previous owner said the bore was rusted. There was flash rust about 5 inches down the bore and the rest was shiny! I mixed #600 alundum with bore butter to a thick paste, worked it thoroughly into some patches and then shot about 20 lightly loaded round balls down range, wiping the bore after every third shot. The bore is now shiny as a new dime, shoots great and loads very smoothly. Cleaning is easy also.
