What is the most useless shooting accessory you own for your muzzleloaders?

It may be that you just haven't needed it yet, but it's there and always in the way...

What is it?

Over the shoulder shot snake. It weighs about three pounds when full and always tries to spin itself horizontal instead of scoop-head down so it snags on everything. Instead I carry a small (1 lb - 14 shots) bag with a antler plug that is hollowed out on one end to hold 1-1/8 oz of shot.

Mostly, the useless stuff gets weeded out.

All the equipment I carry to "the range" is the same that I carry hunting. Everything in or on a 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" x 2" double bag.

When I first got my flintlock, I purchased one of those vent pick/horse hair brush combos. I thought, "Hey, that'll be useful." I've since tossed it in the trash.

I have a vent pick attached just below the cheekpiece and use my shirt to wipe the pan.

LOL! Me too.

I carry a grouse feather that works as a pan brush, vent pick, safety plug and cat toy.

I use sometimes use the next patch before lubing it to clean the frizzen & pan. A little scrap of flannel will keep the shirt clean.

I foolishly bought a little brass knapping hammer to put IN EACH caliber shooting pouch...never used one other than trying out the first one I bought

Priming horn I made and 4 lbs of 4f......and one of those brass hammers..the backside of my knife or my turnscrew works fine.

Mine has to be the compressed air ball discharger. I have never used it. Different than other posters, I would be lost without my little brass knapping hammer/screwdriver combo.

Mine would have to be a nipple wrench for #11 caps, I have a flintlock and a gun that takes musket caps...

So it just sits there, mocking me... :shocking:

Mine would be the fouling scraper, and little brass flint hammer... I'm sure there's more things laying around in some old shooting box of mine... 'Course, I keep carrying them with me. You never know when your going to need them???

A 15 yr old bottle of "Spit Patch"
Was given to me at the range. Forced on me by a "Wizard" that knew my face was a disgrace for always walkin' n' talkin' with the blue striped rag in my mouth. ::
Thanks Mm, I just threw it out! :curse:
I'll keep my fetish fer the tickin. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Riarcher's got it...my jug of spit patch dates to about 1972, when an expert explained why I needed it....somehow, I missed one of those little brass hammers...made my own horse hair frizzen brush....use it once in a while if I get a flint problem on the line and need to get rid of the priming...made a knapping tool out of a nail, and use it, or the back of my patch knife...maybe the patch knife is the second least used thing, since I went upscale and bought pre-cut patches...Hank

oooh, the lowly patch knife.
Can't leave home without it!
My knife is an all important tool that's been upgraded throughout the years.
Backside has a nick for knappin, handle's drilled for a pick, end is ground for an emergency screwdriver, anouther area ground for nipple wrench, and the handle is drilled for a .440 loading block.
Simply can't leave home without it!
As in the olden days, a tool must have a variety of uses. ::
I've just started a powder horn, big one. One end for powder, the other for shot (still workin on that). Of course there will be a powder/shot measure for a .75 cal incorperated somehow.
Really "get off" on multiuse tools, just so much less to carry.

6 spare nipples for my 5 shot 1862 Colt Police pistol.

One bottle of foul smelling patch lube? that was left at the range by someone who appearently knew its worth. The Rangemaster said if I didn't want it, he would throw it out.

A snail style Musket Cap dispenser that jams.

A bottle of gun oil that seems to be made from ATF and STP.

Half a pound of Black Canyon Powder that has turned into a solid lump in the container.

ball bag, I installed a small pocket at the top inside of my rifle bag to hold balls in so I don't have to be diggin' around for em'. I just reach inside and pull one out. Also a bronze brush, never use em, but always carry em', and I don't know why?

The other day I was looking through my drawers of all the stuff I have accumulated. There, still sealed in its plastic and cardboard was a patch worm. I have never used it. I keep it in case I need it, but so far so good.
