I have just recently gotten back in to blackpowder shooting. I have a T/C cherokee with the .45 and .32 barrels. At 6'2" and 215 lbs. I decided I needed a big-boy rifle. I recently purchased a great plains rifle.50 cal.percussion and love shooting it when I get a chance. I grew up in the mountains of southwest Va. where I could shoot my guns off of the carport. I have been in Winston-Salem NC for the past 20 years and have to drive an hour and a half back to the mountains to shoot. Does anyone know of a near by range that will let you shoot muzzleloaders?

You could try calling this place and see if they allow black powder firearms...

I am not sure how far this is from you, but clearly they permit ML shooting at some times:

My MuzzleBlasts lists:

French Broad River Rifles at Weaverville, NC
POC: Henry 828 658-0706

White Oak River Long Rifles at Hubert, NC
POC: Dave 910 326-6003

Yadkin Valley Long Rifles at Thurmond, NC
POC: 336 874-8007

You might think that I am sending you long distances, but consider that I routinely drive twice what I am suggesting to attend shoots as the NE corner of SC is an ML wasteland. I would love to get something going between here and Camden, but there do not seem to be many good options...

Thanks for the info. I will be checking out the Thomasville location and also the Yadkin Valley Long Rifles.

How far are you from Rockingham/Hamlet, NC. There is a range north of there close to Ellerbe. It is a 4H camp called Camp Millstone. Generally open Fri, Sat, and Sun 1-4. Costs $5.00.

I am in Florence which is not all that far from that area, but I generally look for organized shooting matches. Do they have a monthly ML shoot? I would love to find one so close!

If not, what can we do to start one?

Nosir...No monthly shoot..er bimonthly..er well you get the idea.
This range is part of the 4-H Camp, and as such, of course hosts many a program for youngsters (which is why it was built). The range isn't open during these times, so during the summer months the availible days vary quite a bit.

Recently, the 75m/100m range has been bulldozed..making the 50m berm the max range. I do hope to be able to arrange to have a scheduled shoot there in the future...after they finish the long scheduled repairs etc. There is also a skeet range on location that is on the same schedule.

Confused? Well me too at times with all the changes going on. Feel free to call me Tue thru Fri, 9:30 to 5:30 @ (910) 205-1404 and I'll try to explain better.

Sorry...After reading my post, it looks as if I am connected with/to the Range & 4-H Camp  I'm not an employee of either.
Thanks, just didn't want to give the wrong idea.
