Got an extra powder horn just sitting around???

Why not put it to use, make a shot horn out of it... :hmm:

Just enlarge the spout's hole so the shot will flow freely and make a new stopper for it and you're done... :D

Idea has been around a while. Only problem is they are noisy with the shot rattling around in them. The leather shot flasks seem to be a better choice. They are quiet. :imo:

What if you filled it with buffered shot? :D

Sorry, had to say it... :haha:

Depending on your hunting conditions and what you are after, noise may not be a problem...

You could also use the noise to your advantage, say to bring out a curious squirrel into view or as a rattlesnake call...

If you are still hunting, it may not pose a noise problem, you'll be using it right after that loud "BOOM", I don't think a little rattle will be taken seriously once the musket talks...

Still, other conditions will require complete silence...

I agree Rebel. No sense stalking when you sound like a Latin band every time you take a step!

:D Moracca Horns... :D

What if you were to cover the horn with leather, that would muffle it to an extent?

I know, go buy a leather pouch and be done with it, but I have this extra horn and I want to put use to it...

Don't need nor want no rattlesnake call. I had a few close encounters of the scaley kind when i lived in Ariz. But they are good to eat.

:m2c: I made up leather shot and powder snakes, so very simple yet effective. Slung over each shoulder they are silent and remain out of the way while allowing good freedom of movement.

To make moister resistant, I lined the snakes with double (one insert inside the other) plastic inserts made up on the food saver machine. PC? (period correct) :imo: No. Works for me? :RO: Yep.

Well, make ya a nice BIG Salt horn. Then when you are out hunting you will have plenty of salt to put on whatever you shoot to eat. ::

Salt horn, eh? :hmm:

That would work, I would have to be careful I don't get confused and dump a measured amount of salt down the bore while hunting grouse with my bess..

Good thing salt and powder are two different colors, maybe that's why there's no pepper horns...

Yea a pepper horn might get confusin'. :: Add a little salt and pepper from yer horns to the corn muffin mix that ya already put down the bore and ya got the makings of a whole meal when ya fire the shot.
