You don’t see these too often. These are used to not only hold your shot but measure out and pour the shot down your muzzleloader. Made out of brass and leather. The gentleman in the photo is Dr S. W. Woodhouse. He’s part of a couple of expeditions that was surveying the Creek/Cherokee boundary in what was then Indian Territory. His job was 2 fold. He was the traveling physician and the naturalist collecting plant and animal specimens. There’s a book that is a reproduction of his itinerary of his exploits.
