I was wondering how many shots you get out of a pound of powder? for example shooting 100 grains of 2f for a hunting load. How many shots you get from shooting a pound of 3f with a 85 grain hunting load? I am trying to figure out the price per shot I figure about 100-125 per pound with 2f but I have not kept track.

There's 7000 grains to the pound. At 100 grains per shot you get 70 shots per pound. 85 grains per shot gets you 82 shots per lb.

Use what you like, with 3f your're going to have to back off on the charge plus you'll get somewhat of a cleaner burn. Alot of guys use 3f in large calibers (50 and 54) plus you can use it to prime the pan. I myself use both 2 and 3f depending on what I'm shooting. 2f will give you a lower pressure which is usually a good idea. As far as shots per pound I find most guys use too much powder in the first place, me myself included. SSettle
