I have a range in my back yard and can shoot pretty much anytime depending on the weather, I don't shoot early in the mornings out of respect for my neighbors. My .40 build is complete, I've been shoot it so we can get used to each other. My two shooting sessions were 18 and 13 shots. Load development will start soon, it's too hot right now.

Those of you paying range fees, what is the usual charge per day/session/hour?

Gunclub dues are $200 a year. Unlimited shooting 25 to 100 yard outdoor range, 50’ indoor pistol. Outdoor Range open sunup to sundown, exception of Sunday and holidays no shooting before 10AM. Stocked trout pond, and an archery range. Personal use for social gatherings of club house facilities and grounds with member approved reservations.

Depends on the gun how many shots it takes to scratch my itch. Usually shoot rifle and pistol, 4-5 cylinders full and 10-15 rifle shots. My brother lives only a mile away and we're both retired so he comes up to my range and we shoot together. Kind of like playing together :horseback: when we were kid's but we have real guns now but don't point them at each other :thumb:
Digressing here off thread. But it brings to mind as a kid growing up on a farm. Raised by foster parents, a foster brother and I same age both had RedRyder BB rifles. 10 year old kids and I’ll admit , we on occasion, played cowboy and Indians with those rifles.
No casualties thank goodness.

I have my own spot about five minutes from the house. I usually go alone and like the freedom of shooting paper at various distances, checking shots whenever or plinking water filled bottles. I'll bring two BP pistols and run about 18 shots in each. That will take up a good bit of the morning handloading the guns and then about 2 hours or more for complete disassembly and cleaning. A good day!

12 to 15 shots with black powder. A couple of hours. I shoot other stuff too, so that adds about another hour. Summer time is brutal out here.

In Spring and Fall, I have been known to spend 4 hours or more at the range. More black powder rounds.

Like others have said, it depends. At my age and condition I mainly shoot off the bench. That means shooting for accuracy so I take my time. First shot requires swabbing residual oil from bore, lock, vent, etc. Load. Position gun on bench. Prime. Aim and fire. Swab bore and wipe lock. Set gun aside to give bore time to dry. Check shot placement through scope. Wipe bore with dry patch and pick vent. Load. Of course, there are usually minutes spent conversing with non-BP shooters. So let's say one shot every 5-10 minutes and an average 2 hour range session. Between 12-24 shots fired.

Back when I still lived in Georgia I did have a backyard range. But it really scared my doggies so I set up farther into the woods. A bit later I started shooting at a farm owned by a dear friend and this is also where I hunted most of the time. It was a 5 minute drive (we're talking 35 mph) and I enjoyed that for years. I shot a lot back then and filled truck after truck with deer & other critters.

Now it's not quite so convenient but far from being a chore. The club I belong to is now about 12 minutes away and that works fine for me. True, a backyard range can't be beat but I'm satisfied with this arrangement.

I pay $35/year for pretty much unlimited access to the club I shoot at. It's in a rural area and in nice weather I can spend hours there just enjoying the outdoors. I'm usually by myself but if there are any other shooters present they are most likely not shooting muzzleloaders and are on one of the other multiple ranges the club has.

I usually fire 24-32 shots in a session with my flintlocks as I do all my shooting offhand and that's about the limit that my back will take before it starts to let me know it's had enough.

You guys need to shoot more and while a solitary day at the range is nice, take a kid or a black powder nooby with you.

I have a back yard range, so for me it is usually 15 to 20 shots. In the winter months can be as many as 40. Usually it is so hot during the summer that the 15 shots take about and hour and half and I'm soaking wet with sweat. Then I spend another hour cleaning the gun. I enjoy that just as much as shooting.

Until I moved to NE Wyo. I lived in a small town in central Wyo. Shoshoni has one of the best FREE outdoor ranges in Wyo. bar none!! 5 minutes from my house. Used to go out every Sat. morning early. Took my lunch with snacks and plenty to drink. Minimum of 4 guns and more often then not I would have 6 guns with me with at least 200-400 rounds of ammo.If it was muzzleloader day I took 3 rifles and one pistol. 100 rounds each. Get to the range at about 7:30-8/00 in the morning and stay till 5 in the afternoon. Over the years I let at least 50 people shoot my muzzleloaders. Many would come down sometime during the day because they knew I would be there and they wanted to shoot the black powder guns. Sadly I don't live there any more.

I belong to a gun club about 4 miles from my house and go sometimes twice a week to shoot. Usually I shoot about 40 ish rounds of BP and 100 or 150 in modern guns.

I try to get to my club's range twice a week and usually shoot muzzleloaders, mostly percussion, at least one of those days. I generally shoot for 1.5 to 2 hours firing roughly 30 shots.

On average how many shots do you fire during whatever your typical shooting session is?

If I have percussion revolvers, usually at least 30-50 per gun. I usually bring a pair.

If I have a stocked revolver, usually about 100 rounds.

Rifle-Musket or a smoothbore musket, if I made paper cartridges, 30-50 rounds depending on which cartridge box I used, and how many I felt like making. Sometimes over 100 if I bring a lot of cartridges.

A rifle with loose patched balls or bullets, maybe as few as 20 shots or so.

If I make a decision to pack up and go to the range, even if only for a couple hours, I like to get some real shooting in.

I usually shoot in a competition where we shoot 13 rounds on a card with 30 minutes to do it. Then we repeat the same at a different distance. So, 26 rounds with the rifle. Then we change over to pistol and do the same again for a grand total of 52.

I'm usually shooting multiple firearms for 2-3 hours. So 30/40 plus one cigar.
