On my SMR it's a precarve from Pecatonica
Which side plate or does it matter?
I like the small curved one pics below.
Ok the small one that's on the gun or the other one? The one is upside down I guess the other one is called left side down. LOL

Off the top of my head, I'd say, whichever you prefer...Digging deeper, look at pictures of other southern mountain rifles and see what they used...You could also make your own...I just finished making and inletting a toe plate for my Woodsrunner, turned out pretty well...
 
The t shaped one seems to be most popular today, Bean is known to have used a long t. I have seen original with none, the tear drop, one with bone or antler, a couple with silver, one was a coin about dime sized and filed flat on one edge
Several with iron that looked like a typical Lancaster style
