Just dialed in my dads rifle ( Traditions St.Louis Hawken .50cal ) after installing a taller front sight.

I'm sure my dad flinched on his first shot, but he came back with #2 and 3. After that I took the rifle into the shop, drifted the rear sight to the left a hair and then went back and took 2 more shots which put her perfectly 2" high above the bullseye.

This was just 50 yards today to get it on target and test the new powder. I won this at rendezvous and since it shoots well, my dad and brother can use it for hunting this year. I am going to sight in my brothers 54cal hawken next.

Nice looking rifle, but if it were mine the first thing to go would be that trigger guard "Brush Grabber" LOL! I think it would look cleaner and more traditional.

Well I took the st louis hawken out today at 50 yards and upped the charge to 80gr 3fg and accuracy stayed the same. No point in using more powder if the group doesnt shrink down a bit lol.

I did shoot the 54cal hawken yesterday as well and 80gr 3fg, .530 round ball and .020 patch shot awesome, just 2 big holes overlapping each other. I spent some time adjusting the sights so she was center and all thats left now is to run both out to 100 yards and make sure they are shooting dead on.

I hope whomever is going hunt with these guns takes them out and sights them in on their own. I never let others sight in my guns as everybody shoots differently, and I prefer to know where I'm hitting with it not where someone else is.

100 yards today! My dads Hawken up to start.

1st shot, cold clean bore.

next 2 shots on a dirty bore. Bullseye is 3" diameter.
