How many of You use a sling on Your hunting rifle? If You do, how do You attach it to Your rifle to stay within a traditional parameter. I like the idea of a sling but hate idea of the sling swivel thing on my gun.

You can buy a lace-on sling. It wraps around the butt and laces on, the strap is held in place by the ramrod or you just tie it on. No swivel studs needed.

I've made a couple for my rifles. I carry them in my haversack until I need my hands free to drag a deer out. No idea if it is politically correct. I stole my pattern out of one pictured in a Dixie Gun Works catalog.

I actually loop mine over the barrel between two ramrod thimbles with the ramrod out, snug it tight, and then slide the ramrod in. Figured that was easier on the ramrod. Mine are designed to carry the rifle with it's sideplate flat against my back, so the sling ends up attaching on the side of the buttplate, not the toe.

i have a lace up one i got from cabellas i think. the lace up part is nice but i just looped aroud the barrel and was always getting in the way, so i broke down a got a swivel from t/c that threads right into an included new rod thimble. it works great and holds great. when i shoot i wrap the sling around my supporting arm and it hasn't ever come loose.
