Found a second great use for those great little Mizzy grinding wheels that Superflint turned us on to. Rescuing "Humpy" Flints (Mizzy Wheels)
Whenever I find a nice little bottle for carrying lube/solvent in, it is invariably a screw top (which means post-Civil War). I didn't want to risk breaking or losing the few old medicine bottles I have, and most of them are just the wrong shape. I had a nice, 1 oz McCormic Vanilla Extract bottle that is a perfect shape (maybe 2" wide and 3/5" deep) and thought I'd try whacking off the threads with the Mizzy. Eureka! The result is a neck that looks like ground glass with no signs of the threads. Add a 1/2" cork (rubber stoppers didn't work - kept popping out on their own accord) and it's ready for the woods.
