Picked this one up at an antique store the other day. It's made from solid brass, it's 2" tall, the front is 1 1/2" wide, and the side's are 1" wide.
It also has brass belt loops so it was made to wear on a belt up to 3/4" wide.
It also has a hinge on the bottom of the box which I have no idea why it's there? :idunno:
When I bought it, it was all caked up and couldn't tell what kind of engraving was on it. I cleaned it up the best I could inside and out. Before anyone says I shouldn't have cleaned it up and that it could destroy the value, that is if it's worth anything anyway? I dunno :idunno: I plan on using this little box as a capbox and put it back into service.
It looks to me to be hand made? It's pretty thick and definitely has some weight to it for being so small.
I was hoping that someone could identify this and tell me what I have here? Do you think that this little box was made to hold percussion caps? Also about how old do you think this might be? The engraving's on it are also a little unusual?
Any comments or info would be greatly appreciated!
