Thinking of building 18th Century Horse/Dragoon type Pistol, but not having much luck finding barrel for same. (Round; smoothbore; 9" to 12"; .60 to.69 cal. Any suggestions?

Follow this link to Stonewall Creek Outfitters site and click on Pistol barrels.

They offer several Ed Rayle smoothbored barrels.

You will have to have Adobe in your computer to be able to read the quick download from clicking on the "Pistol" button but if you don't have Adobe, its a free program you can download and install on your computer.

I recently bought an Ed Rayl barrel, don't recall from whom. Barrel is well made like the rest of my Rayl barrels, but came w/ the breech plug installed. I've done everything I can think of to unscrew the plug, short of unrepairable marring, but it would not budge. I would suggest asking that the breechplug not be installed.

My other Rayl barrels had a slightly tapered plug which can be difficult but not impossible to work with if you want to shorten the barrel at the breech (plug as it was too long for the pistol style).

Thanx everybody - Can you imagine this rapid an exchange of Info not that many years ago?

Dogman - I found what I was looking for on that site, & much more too. Zonie - although the site you recommended didn't have exactly what I was looking for, I was impressed, and it's now on my Favorites List; I have other projects in mind.

So many ideas - so little time & cash...

If the barrel is round outside, I'd leave the breech plug and not struggle with it. Rayl does a good job of installing the plug. Otherwise, take it to a 'smith doing ML work to un-install if you are somehow compelled to take it out.
