Boy I am sure glad I started reading more on the Smoothbores,I have a old Dixie brown bess that I made from a kit about fithteen years ago.The touch hole was drilled way too low and I just got used to that timing.I took my dremel and ground a new deeper pan raising the touch hole. This really quickened the lock time! The rabbits and birds are in for a big surprize!RunningBear. :thanks:

Atta boy! Actually, the more you can lower the pan bottom the more speedy the lock will work. Obviously, this technique has limits...I say this from having to help one eager beaver replace his lock plate due to cutting through the pan!! Oops!! :youcrazy:

Actually the lock does not work better ,, just the ignition time is better and you can over do it .
Next tune your lock up some . I believe there is a discussion going right now on lock tuning.

This will help you out even more .IMO there should be no noticeable difference in a proper flintlock and a cap lock but you have to do your part
