I need alittle help. I have a 54 smoothbore fusil made by a well knownen builder. here`s the problem I can`t get the thing to go off very often. The pan goes off everytime but not the gun. I`ve tried everything I can think of to make it work. drilled touch hole out alittle bigger, 2f, 3f, 4f in the pan.
70 grs. of 2f and 3f for a load. tried picking the vent tried, not picking the vent, tried powder as far away from touch hole as possible, tried powder next to touch hole, nothing seems to work. I sent it back to builder he sent it back telling me how to load it. followed his advice still did`nt work. I wondering if I should try a new vent liner?? anybody got any ideas.

I will talk you through it. You and I can talk on the phone, and figure out what's wrong.
I am thinking flash hole liner, but I'd like to see pics first.

The location of the touch hole in relationship to the pan is critical. Where is the bottom edge of the touch hole in relationship to a line drawn across the top edge of the flashpan? Are you using FFg Goex powder in the main charge, or a substitute? The only substitute powder that will work in flintlocks is Pinnacle, made by Goex.

Contact me directly and I can help you get through it. Paul

Back in nov. I posted that I needed help with my 54 smoothie, I thought it might need a new vent liner, I colud never get it to go off on a regular basis. a friend came up for deer season and changed the vent liner and now the thing goes bang everytime and very fast. Paul thanks for the help and the offer to let me call you.
