Snake Eyes Loading

I would like to load my Snake Eyes Derringer with shot. Can anyone explain how I should do this? How much shot? How much powder? I want to use it to shoot snakes.

I believe the snake eyes derringer is a .36 smooth bore. A snake load might consist of 15 grains of 3f, a 1/8" felt over powder wad, 1/4 oz of shot, and a 1/8" lubed felt over shot wad. It could work, but I have no idea what kind of a pattern you would get. What size shot you use could make a difference. For snakes, nothing larger than #8 shot would be my guess. # 12 or #9 shot would be better. Range would still have to be close.

A square load of 15grs might get er dun! But yes, you'll need to be close. I've killed many snakes with rimfire CCI ratshot in a handgun, at 8 to 10 feet. They use #12 shot, IIRC.
