Turkey season opens on the 25th this year in Ontario, I woke up to 3" of snow! And though it's melting it's still snowing and is suppose to snow all nite! My question is Will Tom be "in the mood " in the morning or should I go to work and wait a few days for warmer weather ? I know a bad day huntin' is better than a good day at work, but only have a couple of days to take off and don't want to waste any !!

If the wind is not howling and the snow is not coming down hard, I have seen a lot of turkeys moving in light snow. The nice part is, with snow on the ground, they are a lot easier to see sooner.

If the wind is really blowing they will tend to hold up in hollows, brush areas, or groves of thick trees. If you can sneak into those areas you can see birds, especially if you get in there before sun up and just sit down.

During light flurries I have seen flocks of turkey move into the fields trying to find something to feed on. Good luck with your turkey hunt...

We had about 2" of snow last night here in Michigan. I talked to a buddy that went out this morning and he said he saw several birds and heard some gobbling. It's been my experence that they really shut up and dissappear in rainy weather but snow doesn't bother them as much unless of coarse it's coming down hard and blowing. :results:

This may be a little late, but I do have some experience with spring turkeys (unlike the nuances of muzzle loaders). I've killed 2 in the snow. One here in NY on Mother's day several years back (I think it was May 7th). My wife and I awoke to 6" overnight, and when she saw that she decided to sleep in. My other friend decided to sleep in too, but I couldn't resist the temptation. Long story short I was out of the woods in under an hour with a tom that on any other day probably would have ignored me, but his girlfriends must have been a little "fridged" that morning. :crackup:Let's face it; If you were all horned up and some sweetie asked you to meet her over the next rise, wouldn't you? even if it meant risking freezing something off? Turkeys live outside 365, and while the weather may slow them down, it won't shut them down.

And hey! what gives with Ontario opening up before us!? we have to wait until May 1st here! :curse:

At least you don't half to step around snakes in the snow. Youth turkey hunt day was the 23rd here. Bout stepped on a corn snake.

This is really something! You guys are having much worse weather than us but our turkeys are all of the two legged variety. :D
Best Wishes

Hey.I'll take snow any day of the week if I could hunt the big birds. I love hunting turkey, but I hate the bugs that come out in the spring. I spray my clothes down with tick spray to keep from getting Lyme disease. So far in Massachusetts, no mosquitoes or black flies, but I know when it warms up they'll be out in droves. I'd love to take a bird in the snow.

Got me Rebel. If I could only learn to hear what I'm saying before rushing to print......I could rule the world. Or at least get the wife's dog to mind me, maybe.
Best Wishes

Hey don't worry about it. I have problems remembering what i just typed. :: But we do have an abundance of them 2 legged Turkeys without feathers around here.
