Been back from Rendezvous for almost a week and finally getting things organized and put away for another year... This year we held 'Candle Snuffing Shoots' every night except one, when we had our 'Candle Lantern Paper Shoot', and they were all fun...
At the 'Candle Snuffing Shoots', most of the guys felt that the larger the bore the better the chance of snuffing out a candle? That may be so, but I had no problem with my .45 Lancaster and a 45 grain load under a .445 PRB... Won two first place, and one second place, and the number two finish was against a guy with a .45,,, so I don't know if the idea of using large caliber's for these shoots really hold water???
We shot at 25 yards and the candle was in a box... I thought it made a good target that you could get your sights on, and it did. For me and Tom, at least... You had to snuff the candle, if you hit the candle, you were out. It was single elimination...
I just thought I'd share this with the group. Candle suffing is a good challenging event, and you'll find out just how well your load chain is laid out when loading in the dark...

Of COURSE large bores hold more water than small bores.
But, pray tell, what does that have to do with sniffing candles??? ::

No Powder, Maxi,
Hard to believe folks turn out their lights in such a primitive manner, "using those light switches on the wall"... Who would a thought that would catch on??? ::

Haven't you ever seen a candle snuffer? This works the same way, only instead of a little cap on the end of a handle you put the end of the barrel over the flame. A water gun is a lot safer than one of them others filled with Black Powder. :: ::

good job Joe! 25 yards is a long shoot fer snuffin! (most ours is at 15)
Well done at that distance fer a .45! yer eyes must still be sharp!
we alway's tease the candle snuffers around these parts as "poacher!"!,,,'How can they see that little light'?"
That's good shootin!!:) Well done Ohio Joe,,I Know what it takes,,did ya get ta keep the candle?

sumtacks,
Thanks... Chet, the man who ran it kept the candle. However, I did get a nice buffalo skinner knife, and powder... I also got the "poacher ribbing" that comes with snuffin', :D
I kind of thought 25 yards was a far piece when I got down to where the shoot was set up, but that's where they put it. I really didn't expect to snuff it even once at that distance, the truth be known... Now if I only could shoot during the daytime??? ::
They gave me and my rifle new name's; Candle Man, and Ol' Snuffer. Win or lose, we all had a good time with good friends we hadn't seen in a year. We also had some good dark nights and as you know that makes a big difference...
Thanks again, :)
