I got the truck packed. The flintlocks in there waiting for the start on Friday.I wrote a list somewheres close to 2 weeks ago.Checked everything off as I loaded them into the truck.I even took the time tonight to go visit my elderly Mother and wish her an early happy birthday as she knows I'm never home at this time of the year.Well after all the packing and visiting was over I stretched out in my favorite lazyboy chair for a little "Kink" and dream some happy thoughts about the Deer opener on Friday when My mind drifted to the fine Horn my good friend Soggy made me last Christmas.........Holy manure!!!! :shocked2: I don't know if I packed any powder or not!! :shocked2:
I sat Bolt upright,Burst out of my chair!!Ran out to the truck....Looked everywhere......No Powder No Horn,Not even one speed loader full.Well this could have been much worse cause all I had to do was go inside the house and get the horn and the spare 1lb can I had and through it in with the rest of my stuff.
Can you imagine driving 5 hours in a truck and then another 1 hour and a half on four wheeler only to find out the night before the season that you had no powder and you hunt with all modern cartridge guys??Imagine that!
My God!!!I have been waiting for 11 months I hope I have everything!
See you guys in 12 or so days......Good luck to everyone...and remember don't forget the powder. :winking:

One year I drove for an hour and a half, got to the parking spot, got out to put boots on...No Boots! Another year a pal did the same and was ready to hunt, had everything but the weapon. Murphy never takes a day off. Good luck, Good smoke, ron in FL

I guess it just goes to show you all plans arent foolproof.I haven't had anything on my mind this fall but just getting into the camp and then the deer stand.
Good luck to you too!

....May your powder be dry, your sights true and the rest I leave to you!..

wishing you success,

Brett

2 years ago, my Father-in-Law and I got to our deer hunting spot, decided to test fire our ML's at a target in camp the day before the hunt. FIL opened gun case and pulled out his trusty 20 gauge winchester shotgun!! lucky I had a spare ML! He hunted with my "Spare" all week.

Two years ago during ML season I got to the deer camp & forgot my boots. 15 min later I was dragging out a nice fat doe in a pair or loafers !!

But, I didn't really care what she wore ! :rotf:

Also got to the camp one time & had no balls...... :shocked2: Anyway ya look at it, ya can't hunt with no balls......... :hmm: Ended up working at the camp all day rather than hunting as nobody in the area had .58 cal round balls in stock. :(

Halftail,
Thought I forgot my hunters orange once and drove 25miles to get a vest and hat at a Wally
World. Returned to find out the my downed
hunting vest was reversable to blaze orange :cursing: It was a great :rotf: :rotf:
during the entire camp.

 In 1994 my dad, my brother and I went sheep hunting. 2 1/2 hour drive, two day ride in, set up camp, go through the packs, dad's boots aren't there :shocked2: :cursing: . All he had was his camp shoes and the lace up rubber boots that he rode in with  . NOT impressed  .

Deer season doesn't start until Nov. 4, but I made a quick trip over to do some work at the camp last weekend. I took my GPR along just in case I saw a hog. About there and I remembered leaving the #11 caps on the desk in my room. There's no known source of ML supplies within 50 miles (at least) of the camp.

So the next morning, I was putting on my workshirt and found, to my surprise, my fully loaded #11 capper in the pocket (thought I had lost the capper, you know).

Never saw a hog on the place. Did see deer though.

I`ve made several trips to the deer stand with my bow and forgot my release :shocked2: Tell me it`s the old age :hmm:
Good luck on your hunt  and the reminder not to forget the powder on my first deer muzzleloader season this year. :)

I made a list so I don't forget anything. Just couldn't remember where I put the damn list. :rotf:

Forgot flint one time. An hour and a half back home to get one. Remembered that the limestone formations in the area I was hunting contained chert that the Indians often used for arrowheads and spear points. Didn't take long to find some of this along a road cut. Quickly found a piece with a sharp edge, banged it down a bit to get it to fit. The rock looked terrible but, it set off two loads of pan powdeer in a row. Bit rough on the frizzen and after about 5 strikes it fell apart, but it got me through the day of hunting. Couldn't have done that with a cap lock could ya?
