you can use a hard cast with a patch in a smoothie with good results. gotta' go soft in a rifled barrel.

Pure soft lead is the only way to go, especially if you are using a tighter patch ball combo.

Do you guys like soft roundballs or Hard roundballs better?

If you do a search on:

paper patch

You will find that hard lead in a slow twist with norrow lands and wide groves works very well in some barrels with shallow rifling.

It works better with larger calibers, the tapered cartridges are easier to make.

I've used wheel weight metal(dull weights only, the shinny ones have zinc in em', stirr clear of those) and I've fluxed it with Borax, which is suppose to de-alloy it a bit. They work ok for general shooting. For target work pure lead is the best way to go. As long as the alloy isn't too hard, like linotype, I don't see why it wouldn't work ok for plinkin' and general shooting.
