I used to think making leather bags were hard, but not as hard as I thought or some others made it out to be. I will say this, if I can make these, anyone can. I've made a few historical bags, but the rest are just ones I wanted to make for me or how I wanted them to look.
I think this was the first bag I ever made, a variation of a Lyman bag with a shoulder strap. I made this one from 2-3 oz. leather which I love working with.
This pouch I made from goat skin, this was a deeper pouch.
I made this pouch recently, based off an original. The semi-fleur de lis pattern is the same as on the original. I changed up the strap and the latch on mine is a little more stout than the original's.
This is my Mohawk inspired neck bag I wear when out hunting with my Pedersoli Indian Trade musket. The flap has beaver fur on it, and this is one of my first tries at applique beading. My family's tribe is Mohawk, and my clan is turtle clan, so there's an antler turtle button for the flap, and I took a spoon and engraved a turtle shell on it. It holds everything I need when out hunting, including my leather shot pouch in the shape of a turtle.
My turtle shaped shot bag that I carry when I am out hunting with my smoothbore guns. This one holds about 8 ounces of shot, more than enough for a day out squirrel hunting.
My hunting pouch I made for my rifles. This one is a bit larger, I added some fringe to the flap which helps make it heavy so I don't need a button or latch. I recently added some hairpipe beads to the flap, which I added a turtle too as well for my family's clan. You can't see it here but I added a strip of beaver fur to the inside of the strap which makes it very comfortable on your shoulder or up to the neck.
