Some Traditional Stock Stains

[The Crisco Kid]

The section on the right is blushed aquafortis. The section on the left is asphalt. The middle section is a combination of the aquafortis and asphalt. All of them were given several coats of a blend of linseed oil, varnish and turpentine. The pistol was finished with just the asphalt which is some roof patch thinned with warm naptha.

Good experiment, the asphalt doesn’t suit my taste and I found that rubbing the aquafortis with scotch brite and finish shows the curl much better. Thanks for posting.

I didn't do any rubbing out on any of the stains. I think the asphalt can be made darker with additional coats or a stronger solution.
