I see references regarding the use of tow as a traditional material for cleaning muzzleloaders. Is tow similar to the material used for the old type feed/potato sacks? We call them gunny sacks or simply burlap bags in my neck of the woods.

Kind of. That's Jute or Hemp, a rougher fiber, but it should serve. Tow flax is raw linen fiber, much softer.

I ordered 10 lbs of tow from Silver Shuttle about 15 years ago, and when this huge box showed up I realized I had a goodly supply. I'm still working of the original shipment. :haha:

Thanks for the source Stumpkiller. I'll give it a go with what I have on hand now (burlap) and order somewhat less than 10 pounds from Silver Shuttle.
