I recently inherited a R. Southgate flintlock longrifle. It has his name engraved on the barrel along with the numbers 805 on the spine of the barrel near the flash pan. Does anyone know about these rifles or this man? What is it worth and who do I contact to get more information about it.

Need pictures.... :)

Southgate made quite a few rifle and I'm sure you could unload it if were in a mind to. As far as value, need to take a look at it. But a "late" plain Southgate rifles usually go between 800 and a couple thousand around here based on condition.

Welcome.

Wasn't he one of the founding fathers of the NMLRA?

I found a listing for Apple Tree Auctions that sold a flintlock pistol of his for $650 in January, this year.
