I am finally able to return to my intrest in ml, but i have a problem. I am a southpaw shooter and i find very few rifles available for leftys. I have looked at cabelas and see they offer one. any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have finished my patch knife, possibles bag, powder horn and i am ready to go.

If you want an off-the-shelf rifle, consider the Lyman Great Plains in left hand. It's a good starter gun.

At the price Cabela's wants for their guns anymore, I'd spend a few extra bucks and get the GPR. Check out MidSouth Shooter's Supply, they usually have the best prices going . . .

Tried to edit my first post, but didn't get the job done . . . As I said check MidSouth Shooters Supply - GPR flint $390, perc $374, both are complete finished guns, left hand and .54 cal (I didn't take specific notice, but IIRC .50 cal are same price) . . .

Me to, a leftie, I have never shot the GPR but I realy like the look, and my friends who shot them get good groups, or get a custom rifle used from Track of the wolf.
:hatsoff:

thank for the sugggestions. I have not seen the left hand GPR models but I have heard a lot of good things about them. I will check it out. thanks for the help. just went to their website, looks like the twist is 1 in 60. will that shoot prbs as well as a 1 in 48 ?

As others have said, the Lyman GPR is a good place to start. I own both the flint and percussion and they are great round ball shooters.
Being left handed makes it tough but if you keep your eyes open you can find some nice left handed rifles. I recently found a left handed tc renegade, 54 percussion, in a kit. It was collecting dust at a shop and got a great deal on it.
The lyman deerstalker is another nice rifle that can be obtained left handed.
I have a TVM fowler, left handed, that tops all the rifles I own.

i also shoot left handed.lost sight in rt eye.......i have a gpr in left hand.....50 cal...have 2 barrels ....one 1-32 twist called the great plains hunter.....and one with a 1-60 twist..you can buy the barrels from mid south shooters supply.....aprox. $116.00...im very happy with the way both shoot.......not hard to make one hole at 50 yds

At a gunshow in Knoxville yesterday I happened across a New Englander .50 percussion left hander marked $150. Bein' a natural southpaw with a non functionin' right eye, I picked it up. It had a real nice crown, but as I ran my eye down the barrel, horror of all horrors, I saw a flock of holes in the barrel. Seems the owner had it drilled and tapped. He moseyed up 'afore I could git outa there and commenced to palaver. He'd just shot it last week, he said, and liked the hesitation between the time the hammer fell and the gun actually went off. :shocked2: Kind reminded him of the ol' Flinters. :youcrazy: I opined that if'n he was to acquire some real gunpowder and quit messin' with them syntietics he'd be supprized at how quickly both types could shoot.
He then asked if I'd give $115 for the gun. I sadly told him I din't want a rifle with that many holes in the barrel, and that nobody I was acquainted with did either. Well he says you gotta have a scope to shoot accurate. I replied that usin' round balls it was best to git up next to yore prey before pullin' the trigger, and to leave that long range stuff to them new fangled suppository rifles. :rotf:
He give me a :youcrazy: look as I walked to the next table, where there wuz a WMC, drilled and tapped, a Cougar with scope mounted and some other Traditions with a monte carlo comb. I went home. :shake:
