Hey guys, I'm having problems with a lock wanting to throw sparks past the flash pan. Any ideas on a simple fix to remedy this issue?

Typically that is a geometry problem. However, it can sometimes be corrected by flint position. Try to adjust it so that the flint is pointing at the pan when at rest.

Great advice. If you’re using your flint with the flat side on top, try flipping it over. Next try the shortest flint that will reliably open the frizzen. Lastly place a thin narrow spacer under just the rear portion of the flint to tilt it down, using a long flint.

Changing the angle of the flint **** is going to be suggested but this can cause problems - the top jaw or screw may contact the frizzen before the flint does.

What lock is it?

Widening the pan on locks with a lot of “ledge” around the pan can be very helpful with ignition. I use a very wide grinding burr.
