I am building implements for our 6 and 12- pounder Napoleons, to regulation. The Army calls for a "copper band,0.5 inch wide and 0.05 inch thick, fastened with three copper nails". Can anyone describe the location of this band upon the rammer head? Thanks. Pvt. Lewis, Btry A, 1st O.L.A.

I think this is it.

Thanks, skunkskinner. I can turn a flat for the band as it comes off the lathe. Pvt Lewis.

Hate to ask a newb question, but what is your sponge made of?
lamb skin??

The picture I posted is of an original that I found on the web. I think it was stated to be wool.

I made two for my cannon, out of the car wash hand mitton thingy (cotton). I havent used them yet so I don't know if they will work or not.

Depending on bore, paint rollers work quite well. I think most originals were a wool sock wrapped around a wooden core.
