I started carving spoons not all that long ago and it's become an obsession.
20 spoons later I'm looking for ideas on styles used by Native Americans and 1700's traders, trappersand hunters.
I just started using Beech and I have to say I like it.
Most of the wood I use now is salvaged from firewood.
Currently I am making a Ladle that is Beech and about 15" long.
Any sites with pics would be a big help.
:thanks:

I dont have any suggestions to offer, but would love to see a picture of your work, sounds very nice...

I should have the Beech Ladle done Sunday so I'll post all the work then.
I've given away quite a few spoons so far too.
I'm limited on the tools but I see the need for some better carving tools and such.
btw I didn't realize we had a camp forum.... :sorry:

Here's a longshot.
I have a vague recollection of reading about a swedish carver who did lots of treen and such--I think his name is Willie Lindquist? Lundquist?? You might try searchin' in that direction. Not american indian, as sought, but I see you ain't gettin' much else. Good luck, its all in the grain.
.....Longshot

Some random shots in that general direction:

Several of my friends use a carved gourd for a ladle. You might give that a go.

Have you condsidered cutting and reshaping horn into spoons?

I have been wanting to find a good spoon mould and cast some as part of living history events.

Hope that you find something that you like or can use.
