Got my turkey last nite. Not a big one, just a jake, but should be good tastin. Used my 20 ga. french fusil. Load was 65 gr. 2f, 3 over shot cards, 1/2 felt wad, equivalent volume of #5,6 mixed shot, and an over shot card. A big tom went by, but I wasn't ready and he was motoring, I think he saw me shift around. He was followed by 5 or 6 more turkeys, some were hens and couple of jakes. I will take credit for calling them in. I had been calling sporadiacally for an hour and a half or so. I had just called and was shifting around when the tom went by. I watched to see if he would turn around, he didn't, but the others following him came by in range. They were a little less than 20 yards from me. Have now bloodied the trade gun with deer, turkey and sqerls. Was a good feeling to get it with a flintlock :front: Maybe next fall I will go in primitive clothing to make it even better.

Congratulations on the turkey. I will be using a .62 caliber smoothbore myself. I intend to load 80 grains of Goex 2f and 100 grains of #6 shot. I hope I have as good a luck as you.

Those Toms take very little to spook. I swear they can see you blink your eyes...

Again, congratulations...

LOL, thankyou, and yeah, I've got a couple of pics, but don't know how to post them.

And as far as coming over, come anytime, we can cook em up, but don't expect to fill up, he wasn't very big  probably less than 15 lbs, about a 3 inch beard, and just little nubs for spurs.

My turkey season is over, I have the state blackpowder championship this weekend. I was debating whether to skip it and fly down for one last hunt but I decided to stay home. At least when the heat of summer rolls around I can sit back a remember my favorite spot to call them in...
