I'm trying to build my own match lock, but I'm not good with springs. I need a spring for the lever/ main spring. I need help. I have a stock,
and a barrel. I need to get it breeched. I have the lock started though. Thanks ahead .

Are you building a snapping matchlock or just a regular sear type? I built a regular, sear type matchlock and made a spring from a window sash spring that I bought from a local Menards store. There was enough spring steel in one pair of sash springs to make several matchlocks. Actually, you should be able to make a spring out of just about any springy steel. I've made some out of spring clips that I had on the peg board in my garage. I also made a spring one time from spring attached to one of those roller wheels that go on the top and bottom of a patio door screen. Just look around. I'm sure you'll find something.

Muzzleloader Building Supply also sells spring stock I believe.

Here's a picture of the one I made:

Great . thanks, your lock looks kina like the one I'm building. Mine will be .62 cal 32" long. Like what I've heard was called a peasant gun.

I probably should have said before, I made a shelf out of mild steel to attach the spring in place. It was easier to inlet this thicker piece into the lock plate than the thin spring stock.
