This weekend I will try squirrel hunting with my traditions kentucky that I got a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering what other people like as a load for squirrels that have this same gun. I also will be using pyrodex. Thanks.

Stay away from black powder subs with a flint. Try around 50gr of FF to start. Not too hot a load, but stick to head shots or there will be nothing left but pieces. Have fun....I still have about a month to go for tree rat season.

Based on my own results using 50 cal (as well as 54 and 58 cals) on small game, take your powder charge on down to around 30-35 grains of 3f.

I agree with "Recon".. I would recommend Goex 3f, real black powder. Leave that pyrodex stuff to the modern black powder arms... :barf:

Now as far as load goes, this is my first year hunting squirrels with my Lancaster .50 cal and i've been loading with 50 grains, and getting great groups, but i may try to see what happens with 30 to 40 grains also... :hmm:

Anyway's good luck and i hope ya hitt'em run'en.

Danny.. :hatsoff:

Believe me if I could find black powder I would be using it. The closest seller of black powder to me is over 2 hours away. Buying it online seems too difficult. So I am stuck with pyrodex.

Oh come on call Graff and sons order the minimum 5 lbs and pay the damn hazmat fee. It's less than 100 bucks delivered to the door so theres no excuse. Unless you want to continue to use the sub's then forget about it.
