I know it's not really an event but the Colonial Quarter is finally open again! It's not the old Spanish Quarter and it's under new management but from my few experiences with the nearby Pirate Museum run by the same folks, this should be just as good as the old Spanish Quarter was.

I just hope they hired some of the old staff as they were some really nice, dedicated folks.

The family went yesterday.

I was impressed with the changes. It is not the Colonial Spanish Quarter, that's for sure! But, the changes are for the good I think.

It's a bigger area overall. Everything looks newer. There are two places to get refreshments/hang out after dark now....the old entrance is a British "pub" and the old Taberna de Gallo is now a Taberna de Cabballo....LOL!

I was disappointed with the lack of interpreters. There was a blacksmith, a "shipwright", and an "armorer/gunsmith" who fired a few blanks and ran some pewter balls....There's a dummy leather worker, the old carpenter spot is gone, and I didn't see anyone else. Hopefully it gets better in this area.

The owner, Pat Croce was there and I got to shake his hand speak wth him, and he showed my boys around a bit. He certainly gave the impression that he is passionate about this whole endevour....

If you are in town, I WOULD recommend it. It gives new life to a part of town with a ton of history. How many buildings can you claim to have walked in from the 18th century? Within a block or two of each other? It seems pricey but combine it with the Pirate Museum that he owns as well and take your time. I think you will enjoy it.
