am not sure where to post this question, So! I'll post it here.

I am not sure how or where to start this question but here it goes.

I am thinking about starting a living history Black powder shooting club pre 1840.

How does one get started in such an undertaking?
I live out in the country where there is lots of farm land, But no shooting range.

Should I advertize in the local paper asking for a place to shoot?

Should I advertize in the local paper asking for people to meet for a meeting. [to see if people in this area are interested?

Do I need to register with local government before I even get started?

Can anyone help me in this?

Thank you very much.

Wow! I must be barking up the wrong tree! This must be harder than I thought.

Give it a day or 2, there are plenty of knowledgable folks on here. Good luck on it....and where in Florida?

WD, I just hadn't seen yer post earlier.
I have started 17 clubs and helped start another over the years. Two of them were for selfish motives. (one has been in existance for over 30 years now) I wanted a local club. The others were as an (former)NMLRA Field Rep.
Of course, the biggest factor is to have others with like interests. An ad or article in your local paper is a good place to start. Notices on bulletin boards is also good publicity. Flyers in local gun shops can be helpful. Mostly, phone calls to others in your area. You can start with a shoot. (I don't reccomend) Or a get-together-meeting at someones home or a community center, whatever is, IMHO, much better.
Do take advantage of local media (newspapers, radio, etc.) after a first shoot for additional publicity.
Yep, it is work. Ask your NMLRA Field Rep. for assistance. That is what they are for and they volunteered to help with just this sort of thing.
Keep us informed. Good luck.

Before your first Shoot as a Club.

1. Incorporate

2. Have liability (insurance in place)

3. Do not do any shooting as a club until you meet requirement # 1, and #2.

Good Luck!
