Is there anyone out there ever seen someone get hurt with static electricity?I just poured some APP powder in a plastic bottle with a cone top.I couldnt get it to come out of my powder dispenser.I guess I need a horn.By the way I just finished looking at an old movie called Drums Across The Mohawk. It wasnt half bad.Squib

There were some posts here a while ago where they tested BP for ignition with sparks; could not get it to go off. You might want to try to do a search,

Powder will 'clump' together just from sitting, whack the jug a few times on a solid surface to loosen it up.
I saw the film, was a good one - how bout the scene where the reverend shot the man the Injuns had tried to a burning wagon out of mercy- thought provoking. :hmm:
Reminiscent of 'Last of the Mohicans' when Hawkeye shot the Brit that was staked in a fire.

The man in the burning wagon was grinning all the time.I dont belive I would be grinning.Good movie.Squib

Here's the link for the experiments with setting off black powder with static electricity.

I haven't tried APP powder but I have tried some similar powder that was given to me.

It was one of the white powders and it worked so badly that I just screwed the lid on it and sit it on a shelf.

About a year later I opened the plastic bottle and the stuff had turned into a rock like substance.
It suprised me that this happened because as most of you know, I live in Phoenix and the humidity seldom gets above 20%.

Anyway, I broke it into chunks and tried to light it with a match. It did burn but very slowly so I threw the rest of it away.

zonie :)

The grinning man in the burning wagon was the director's brother, Francis Ford. Francis was never known to handle real hard parts. Chances are that he started thinking something was funny and couldn't keep from laughing and his brother (John Ford) just keep the grinning scenes rather than reshooting the scene over and over.

i used to work for a company that makes romex conectors in cast metal and plastic and other elec parts....i ran the plastic injection machines....one night at work i was wipeing out a catch bin made of plastic from some grease but i left it on the base of the machine....when i pulled my hand out of the bin i got a static shock that looked like a mini bolt of lighting bout 1/2" dia with all the branch off's and all that came from my hand into the bin....it felt like someone took a 1x3 pine board 3' long a wacked my hand....i went to tell my superviser....by the time i walked 50 feet to him my hand curled up and wrist bent inwards and locked up for bout 45 seconds then was back to normal....being in close prox twice with lighting before it rised the hair on my neck..............bob

Thnks for the replies, did you ever figure out why the machine shocked you?John Ford and John Wayne made some great movies. Thanks Russel, the static test was great.I will trust my plastic bottle.Squib
