If you live near a Barnes & Noble bookstore you may want to check out their bargain books. They have Steel Canvas for 19.95 less 10% coupon you can usually pick up, get on net, etc. This book has a lot of really detailed, color photographs of carving on the buttstock of Pennsyvania rifles, lots of powder horns, rum kegs, knives etc. There is a lot of detail on engraving on patchboxes, etc.
