I only have experence with a 50 cal maxi mold in steel.Want to get a 45 maxi and not sure if I should go steel or aluminum.

Aluminum heats up faster but also cools faster. Most of my molds are aluminum and I like how they heat up fast. I can cast a bunch of balls in a short time and I don't have to wait long after casting for my mold to be cool anough to lube and put away.

I have both. My best are the steel Lymans. They cost more then my Lee's. I buy them used at Flea Markets. My Dad always said the best is none too good for the working man. I beleive he had a good point there. Dilly
